Over three years, I’ve been an avid MyProtein user. I’ve even attached my first protein order purchase, just for show and tell. My first order was 1, eleven-pound bag mint chip protein and 1 two-pound bag of BCAAs.
The affordability of MyProtein’s isolate impressed me, especially given the typically higher cost of whey protein isolates. It’s a higher quality protein AND it’s being nearly lactose-free, with little to no bloating, cramps, or GI distress.
I paid $75 for the 11-pound bag with FREE S&H. The amount of servings for ALL 11-pound bags of isolate is 200 servings, .38 cents per serving. YOU CAN’T SAY NO… Or can you?
Protein Review Metrics
Assessing protein quality can be challenging since most reviews tend to focus on taste and mixability. In my unbiased protein reviews, I’ll take a more comprehensive approach by evaluating the following factors:
Criteria | Description |
---|---|
Value | Assesses the cost per serving of protein and potential sales, providing a clear picture of the product’s affordability. |
Protein Content (Amino Spiking) | Ensures the protein content matches what’s advertised, highlighting any amino spiking practices. |
Mixability | Examines how well the protein powder mixes with different liquids and foods, indicating ease of use. |
Ingredient Profile | Analyzes the number and types of ingredients, including any artificial sweeteners and their impact on health and taste. |
Macros | Evaluates the macronutrient composition, crucial for dietary considerations. |
Flavor | Assesses the taste and its appeal for regular consumption, a key factor for user satisfaction. |
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate Protein Powder Value Review
MyProtein offers varying discounts, ranging from 35% to nearly 50% off. The 35% off sale typically coincides with major holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
On the other hand, the significant 50% off sale occurs four times a year, notably on New Year’s, Cyber Monday, and Black Friday.
Comparison of MyProtein Serving Sizes and Prices
Serving Size | Price | Price per Serving |
---|---|---|
200 Servings (11 lbs) | $140 | $0.70 per serving |
100 Servings (6 lbs) | $80 | $0.80 per serving |
40 Servings (2 lbs) | $40 | $1.00 per serving |
Normally, at the homepage of MyProtein, you will see right away if there is a sale, usually, that sale has free S&H
Value: 10. Super inexpensive price tag.
Does Myprotein Amino Spike?
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate added some “special aminos” to their isolate.
Here’s the standard for 90% of protein companies. Make the buyer feel they are getting a great protein. At the end, they are getting mediocre powder at best.
Purchasing MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate for the first time, I FELT that I was receiving a quality protein.
Standard Practice in the Protein Industry
Many protein companies follow a standard practice that aims to make buyers believe they are getting a top-quality protein product.
However, in reality, what they offer often falls short of being a truly exceptional protein powder.
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate Experience
When I purchased MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate for the first time, I had high expectations of receiving a high-quality protein product.
Does MyProtein Use Amino Spiking?
The label shows 8 grams of added ingredients in the Impact Isolate, but it’s unclear if these are natural or artificial amino acids.
There is also no mention of whether the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are naturally present.
Here’s a breakdown of the amino acid content:
- Contains 4.5g of BCAAs
- Contains 3.5g of Glutamine
Assessing the Protein Content
The product label claims that each serving contains 20g of protein, but I decided to investigate whether this figure accurately represents the protein content.
On the Impact Isolate product page, it’s clearly stated that Impact Isolate has a protein grade of 90%, classifying it as a protein isolate.
If you’re interested in a third-party assessment of MyProtein’s isolate, Labdoor has compiled a Top 10 List of Protein recommendations. MyProtein’s isolate received a B+ rating in their review. However, it’s important to note that the B+ grade was for the UNFLAVORED protein and for their ISOPURE protein, which is no longer available from MyProtein.
Protein Spiking Concerns: 5. Yes, there are indications of protein spiking with 5.8 grams of added ingredients used to boost the protein count.
This raises questions about whether you may actually be receiving only 14g of true protein (20g listed protein – 8g of spiking ingredients = 12g) or if the 20g listed protein consists mostly of isolate (20g * 90% = 18g).
To confirm this, we could test a sample. Let me know in the comments if you want that.
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate Protein Powder Mixing Review
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate is all shook up
Shaker Cup Test: MyProtein’s Impact Isolate passes the shaker cup test with flying colors. It blends seamlessly with milk or nut milks, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer these options.
When mixed with water, it still performs exceptionally well.
Food Mixability: When combining Impact Isolate with cold foods like yogurt and peanut butter, the mixing process is relatively straightforward. You might encounter some dry clumps, which is common.
However, things can get a bit tricky, and dry clumps may persist. I’ve experimented with using Impact Isolate in oatmeal and cream of wheat after microwaving, but it didn’t yield a pleasant experience.
I do not recommend using MyProtein’s Impact Isolate with hot foods..
Mixability: 7. Mixing post workout is great!
When mixed with hot foods, MyProtein Isolate’s texture becomes gritty, and the taste is noticeably altered.
MyProtein’s Impact Whey Isolate is tolerable, not enjoyable. Dissolves great. Mixes good to okay with either water and milk.
Ingredient Profile of MyProtein Isolate Whey Vanilla Protein
Here’s an improved version of the section for better readability:
MyProtein’s Whey Protein Isolate: MyProtein’s whey protein isolate is notably clean, with Impact Isolate as its main ingredient – a rare find in the industry. Many protein powders often contain artificial ingredients, which can be attributed to the need for affordability and mass production.
However, it’s essential to recognize that the choice of ingredients plays a crucial role in determining the taste and quality of the product. MyProtein uses soy as a thickening agent, along with artificial flavors, sweeteners, and additives.
Ingredient Profile: 8. It’s nice to see MyProtein keeping their powder minimally processed. Contains artificial sweeteners (sucralose), flavours, and additives.
No digestive enzymes. 100% isolate, no hint of whey concentrate.
Myprotein Protein Powder Nutrition Facts
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate nutrition facts
Serving Size: 1 Scoop 25g
Calories 90
- Total Fat 0 grams
- Sodium 200 mg
- Total Carbohydrate 2 grams
- Sugar 0 gram
- Protein20 grams
MyProtein’s Impact Whey Isolate has a simple macro composition, making it a decent choice for weight loss. Impact Isolate is great for post-workout, breakfast shake, or for any time use.
It’s nice to see low sodium in Impact Whey Isolate. I’ve seen some supplements with 100mg per serving. If you’re someone who is living off of shakes, sodium can creep up real fast if you’re downing 2 servings.
Macro: 8. My only gripe is the lack of fiber and the nitrogen ingredients to artificially inflate the protein. Nice to see 0 grams of fat. The nutrition label is on point. Nice low carb option.
Does MyProtein Taste Good
Impact Whey Isolate’s vanilla flavor is a mixed bag.
Eight different flavors, plus an unflavored. Some of the flavors are PUKE. I’ve tasted all the flavors. To sum it up, I have not tried cookies and cream.
My words of advice. Go with the smaller bag. Most of the flavors have that super sweeten taste that borders to tolerable.
MyProtein Impact Isolate Flavors Available
Unflavored Option | Strawberry Cream |
Chocolate Brownie | Chocolate Mint |
Chocolate Smooth | Cookies and Cream |
Mocha | Pistachio |
Salted Caramel | Vanilla |
Flavor: 7. I recommend starting with a smaller bag of Impact Isolate before committing to the 11-pound option.
If you don’t like stevia, you will not enjoy the flavor. MyProtein’s whey protein vanilla isolate is about generic as you can get.
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate Protein Powder Review Conclusion
In Conclusion: MyProtein’s Impact Whey Isolate in vanilla flavor undeniably offers excellent value. It’s budget-friendly, has an okay taste, and mixes seamlessly.
However, opting for a cheaper protein powder may mean that MyProtein has made some compromises in essential aspects, such as its amino acid profile.
Amino Acid Profile: As a long-time buyer of MyProtein products, I used to consider their isolate a viable choice for muscle-building.
However, after conducting this review, I believe it’s worth considering spending a little more for higher-quality options.
Final Thoughts: If you’ve tried MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate in vanilla, I’d love to hear about your experience. Please leave a comment below.
Additionally, keep reading for my personal recommendations that, while slightly pricier, have received higher ratings than MyProtein’s Impact Whey Isolate.
