Unbiased Bum Protein Powder Review
This unbiased Bum Protein Powder review is a guest request. I’ve always been interested in Raw Whey Protein because I’ve seen it available at Walmart.
With that shared, let’s get into this unbiased Bum Protein Powder review.
Bum Protein Powder Review: Real Insights from an Expert
Bum Protein Powder tantalizes with flavors like Mint Chip Ice Cream, yet under scrutiny, it reveals several significant drawbacks.
As an expert, I found 25 grams of protein per serving suitable for recovery, but several issues cloud its appeal.
The protein source lacks clarity, no third-party testing for purity, potential amino spiking, and misleading marketing regarding ‘grass-fed’ claims diminish its standing.
- Tasty flavor options
- 25g protein per serving
- Questionable protein source authenticity
- “Mislabled” third-party certification
- Protein content may be amino spiked
- Contains artificial ingredients despite “natural” claims
- Misleading ‘grass-fed’ and ‘natural’ claims

📖 Bum Itholate Protein Review Details
After researching and going through a little back and forth between Raw Nutrition via email, here is what I know about Bum Itholate Protein. Bum Itholate is a collaboration between a 5-time Olympia champion, who brings extensive experience and knowledge in the fitness industry to create this protein powder.
What does the 5-time Olympia Champion’s product line offer, an “itholate” protein? Its name is “Itholate Protein” due to CBum’s lisp when pronouncing ISO.
Here’s the next central point of clarification at the start of this Bum Protein Powder review.
🔍 What’s the Difference Between Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein and Itholate Protein?
I was personally confused between the Raw Whey and Itholate Protein lines. The labeling is different between the two protein powders, even though they are made by the same company, Raw Nutrition.
Raw Nutrition shared there is no difference between Raw Whey and Itholate Protein. The Itholate Protein line offers more fun flavors. Both are grass-fed-style protein powders that share the same amino acid profile. However, it’s worth noting that Bum Itholate Protein may have a slightly different taste and texture due to its unique formulation.
That shared, Raw Nutrition offers a third protein line, Raw Whey Protein Blend. Raw Whey Blend is a three-blend protein; the primary protein sources are isolate, concentrate, and casein. Leave a comment below if you want me to review Raw Whey Protein Blend.
In this Bum Protein Powder review, I’ll only use the Itholate Whey Protein and Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein lines. I’ll use interchangeable terms (Bum Whey Protein & Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein), but those terms will refer to those two protein lines.
What do both protein lines offer?
- 25 grams of “grass-fed” whey protein per serving
- Minimal lactose
- Ideal for post-workout
- 100% micro-filtered (or cross-flow microfiltration)
- Hormone-free, no artificial ingredients, and no GMOs
The only difference between CBum Protein and Raw Grass Fed Protein is the fat per serving. CBum Protein offers 2 grams of fat per serving versus up to 1 gram of fat for Raw Whey Isolate Protein.
🏋️♂️ Is Bum Raw Isolate a Meal Replacement or Post Workout Shake?
The supplement facts state that they comprise 100% whey protein isolate. They are making Raw Whey Isolate Protein and Bum Protein Powder, best utilized as a pre- and post-workout shake. This is because they provide a quick and convenient source of high-quality protein essential for muscle recovery and growth after intense exercise.
However, if you’re sensitive to lactose, you may still experience mild bloating if you decide to drink a Bum Itholate Protein or Raw Whey Isolate Protein shake before a gym session. It’s important to note that these products contain minimal lactose, but it may still concern those with lactose intolerance.
💪 How Many Scoops of Raw Whey Protein Isolate Post Workout?
If you decided to use Raw Whey Isolate post-workout, you’re wondering how many scoops. As always, I refer to ‘How Much Protein Maximizes Muscle Growth.’ Raw Whey Isolate Protein is a high-quality protein source that can help support muscle recovery and growth after intense exercise, making it an ideal choice for a post-workout shake.
Researchers suggest consuming 25 grams of protein, with up to 3 grams of leucine, post-workout. We know that Bum Whey Protein offers 25 grams of protein per scoop. How much leucine is in Raw Whey Protein Isolate?
Raw Whey Nutrition suggests that Bum Protein and Raw Whey Protein Isolate offer 3.14 grams of leucine per scoop. There is evidence that Raw Whey Protein Powder and Bum Protein are amino-spiked.
Based on my research, there are some potential concerns with Raw Whey Protein Isolate. Raw Whey Nutrition shares that Bum Protein and Raw Whey Protein Isolate are third-party tested. However, it’s worth noting that neither of the two proteins is certified by Informed Choice, which could be a concern for some consumers.
If you take Raw Whey Nutrition’s amino acid profile at face value, you only need 1 scoop post-workout. However, it’s important to note that there is a concept called ‘amino spiking ‘, which refers to adding cheap amino acids to protein powders to inflate the protein content. Due to this potential issue, I suggest mixing Raw Whey Protein Powder with skim milk to ensure you get the full benefits of the protein.
Leucine information shared by the USDA states that one cup of skim milk offers 8 grams of protein with .8 grams of leucine. Or use a cup of Skim Fairlife milk. Hopefully, you’ll exceed the 25 grams of protein with 3 grams of leucine.
🛒 Where to Buy RAW Nutrition?
In my area, the only place offering Raw Whey Protein is Walmart. However, that’s the Raw Whey Blend. I always recommend purchasing protein powder directly from the website or from Amazon.

Value: 1.0 out of 10. There is some confusion when selecting between Bum Protein Powder and Raw Isolate Protein Powder. The labels are different, and there is no uniformity. This confusion will be evident for most buyers, especially those interested in selecting a quality protein powder.
Keep reading this Bum Protein Powder review to understand where Bum Protein and Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Powders begin to falter.
⚛️ Is Bum Whey Protein Amino Spiked
No amino acid profiles are shared on either the Bum Whey Protein or Raw Grass Fed Isolate container, and no such profiles are found on the Raw Whey Protein website. I contacted Raw Nutrition for an amino acid profile.
I was surprised by what the Raw Nutrition rep shared. Bum Protein Powder and Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein share the same amino acid profile. My concern is that when you examine the label of each protein powder, they share different protein sources.
Bum Protein Powder shares: “Whey Protein Isolate 90%,” and Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein shares: “Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate 90%.” I’d be upset at this; here’s the reason why: I paid the same price for both containers.
Then again, why not list that as a feature for Bum Whey Protein on the container? Furthermore, if they use a standard isolate for Bum Whey Protein, Raw Nutrition charges a premium for a standard isolate.
Something isn’t adding up. We have a protein powder with standard isolate and another with grass-fed isolate. Taking the Raw Nutrition rep’s word, “Both proteins are a whey isolate.” Is Raw Nutrition charging a premium for a standard isolate, or did I get a lazy rep?
The Amazon description is the final nail in the coffin for Bum Whey Protein and amino spiking. “[…]providing a balanced source of amino acids and peptides.”
In this Bum Protein Powder review, let’s examine whether Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein is a grass-fed isolate.
🐄🤔 Is Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein Grass Fed?
When examining label claims of “grass fed,” I always reference AGN Roots article, “Grass Fed Whey Contains More BCAAs.” Here is why this AGN Roots article is excellent for examining grass-fed claims on protein containers
- Simple information
- Amino acid profile necessary to examine grass-fed claims
- AGN Roots has been certified by Informed Choice Protein
Informed Sport has fact-checked AGN Roots’ claims for their protein powder and nutrition facts. Furthermore, AGN Roots claims that its grass-fed whey protein leads the industry with 6.5 grams of BCAAs per 25 grams of protein.
Let’s compare AGN Roots’ truly grass-fed Irish whey protein isolate to Raw Whey Isolate Protein. I’ll also share the stats of another popular grassfed protein, Naked Whey.
Naked Whey is lower in price because the protein powder is a concentrate. Concentrated protein powders have a higher amount of lactose compared to isolate. If you want more information on lactose and protein powders, check out my is whey isolate low lactose article.
AGN Roots Grassfed Isolate | Raw Whey Isolate Protein | Naked Whey | |
Leucine | 3.05 grams | 3.14 grams | 2.98 grams |
Isoleucine | 1.94 grans | 1.87 grams | 1.49 grams |
Valine | 1.54 grams | 1.62 grams | 1.40 grams |
Total BCAAs per Serving | 6.53 grams | 6.63 grams | 5.87 grams |
Protein per Serving | 25 grams | 25 grams | 25 grams |
Serving Size | 29 grams (Unflavored) | 29.6 grams (Vanilla) | 30 grams (Unflavored) |
Percent Protein per Serving | 86% Protein per Serving | 85% Protein per Serving | 83% Protein per Serving |
Servings per Container | 15 servings | 25 servings | 15 servings |
Price | $27.99 | $54.99 | $23.99 |
Informed Protein Certified | Yes | No | No |
Informed Sport Certified | Yes | Yes | Yes |
AGN Roots Grassfed Isolate claims it shares the highest concentration of BCAAs per serving. Furthermore, their protein is unflavored. AGN Protein is unflavored because it affects the weight and protein percent per serving. Although Naked Whey is not certified with an Informed Protein seal, it is an unflavored whey protein concentrate.
I firmly believe that Raw Grass-Fed Whey Isolate Protein is not a grass-fed protein. Furthermore, It uses an internationally sourced protein powder.
Protein companies that use internationally sourced proteins come from Europe, India, or China. AGN Roots advertises their protein powder from Ireland. Another protein powder, Earth Fed Muscle, also advertises its protein from Ireland.
Irish or New Zealand proteins are expensive. Check out my unbiased Earth Fed Muscle Protein Powder review if you want another Irish-style protein.
📜Is Bum RAW Isolate Protein 3rd Party Tested?
Informed Choice is a recognized independent agency that routinely tests protein powders. However, supplement companies must pay a fee to earn their seal of approval, which sometimes raises questions about the impartiality of the endorsements.
This brings us to the case of Bum Protein Powder and Raw Whey Isolate Protein. Bum Whey Protein advertises, “Third-party tested for quality & consistency.” However, Raw Whey Isolate does not make such claims on its packaging.
When you visit the Raw Isolate Protein page, you will notice two seals from Informed Choice: Informed Sport and Informed Protein. But what do these seals mean?
Informed Sport: This certification ensures that each product batch is tested for banned substances, assuring that they do not contain any prohibited ingredients in sports. Products that meet this standard will display the “Informed Sport” label on their packaging.
Informed Protein: This seal confirms that the protein content on the label has been verified through testing, ensuring the purity and quantity of protein claimed. This provides buyers with an added level of security, affirming that the product accurately reflects its labeling.
Based on research, the only Raw Nutrition Products certified by Informed Choice are Raw Nutrition Protein RTD (Informed Protein) and Raw Protein Grass Fed (Informed Sport).
If you’re looking for a protein powder free of banned substances, it is Raw Whey Isolate. However, the label on Bum Protein Powder states, “Each batch tested for potency/purity/integrity.” Shouldn’t that be on the Raw Protein Grass Fed container?
That’s the protein powder with the official Informed-Sport seal.
Amino Spiking: 1.0 out of 10. It’s nice that Raw Nutrition provided an amino acid profile for both Bum Protein and Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein. However, that amino acid profile is artificially inflated based on the Amazon description.
Raw Grass-Fed Whey Isolate Protein is not truly a grass-fed protein powder compared to industry leaders. If anything, Bum Protein and Raw Whey Isolate are both standard isolate proteins.
Let’s continue this Bum Protein Powder review and see how to mix Raw Nutrition’s protein.

- “Mislabled” third-party certification
- Protein content may be amino spiked
- Contains artificial ingredients despite “natural” claims
- Misleading ‘grass-fed’ and ‘natural’ claims
🥤 How to Mix Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein
The mixing directions for Bum Protein and Raw Whey Isolate are the same
- One scoop of protein
- 8 to 12 fluid ounces of your favorite beverage
- Shake
Powder pockets will occur regardless of which beverage you pick (I used water and skim milk).
⚖️ Does Bum Whey Protein Come With a Scoop?
Shakability Test: 8.0 out of 10. Both protein powders tend to have clumping issues. Small dry spots are along the shaker wall, but nothing under the shaker spout. If you need to mix a quick shake, five shakes, and you’re good to go.

Now let’s examine whether Bum Protein Powder or Raw Protein Isolate uses USA-sourced protein powder.
🌍 Is RAW Nutrition Supplements Protein Made in the USA?
Bum Protein Powder and Raw Whey Isolate Protein are manufactured in the USA. However, the excellent statement “With domestic and international ingredients” appears on both branded labels.
As I shared in ‘Is Raw Grass-Fed Whey Isolate Protein Really Grass-Fed?’, protein powders are sourced from Europe, India, or China.
You can assume that a protein powder is sourced internationally when you see the following statement in the container or the product description.
- No GMOs
- 3rd party tested
- Hormone-free
I have not seen a protein powder with a high amino acid profile sourced from those three countries. As shared before, Raw Grass-Fed Whey Isolate Protein is not a grass-fed protein.
Ingredients List: 5.0 out of 10. Only some things are listed in the ingredient list. As we found out, peptides are listed on the Amazon page. The protein is internationally sourced. Finally, Raw Nutrition advertised their protein powders as “free from artificial ingredients.” That’s the farthest from the truth.
Let’s examine the nutrition facts in this Bum Protein Powder review.
🥗 CBum Itholate Protein Nutrition Facts
As always, the flavor you select will affect the nutrition facts. I have Cookies and Cream and Mint Chip Ice Cream.

🍨 Is Bum Whey Protein Lactose Free?
I experienced minimum bloating, drinking either Bum Protein or Raw Whey Isolate Protein.
Nutrition Facts: 5.0 out of 10. The Nutrition Facts score had the potential to be an 8.0. However, the spiked nature of both Bum Protein Powder and Raw Whey Isolate Powder affected the final score.
Let’s get into the taste test for Bum Protein Powder.
👌 Does Raw Whey Protein Powder Taste Good?
The flavor profiles are the main difference between Raw Whey Protein and Bum Protein Powder. The Raw Nutrition Rep shared that Bum Protein Powders are “more exciting and fun.”
Cookies and Cream: When mixed with water, it’s solid. Milk adds another dimension to the flavor profile. In my opinion, there aren’t enough cookie bits. 7.5 out of 10.
Mint Chip Ice Cream: I agree with the rep; the flavors are more exciting with Bum Protein Powders. Mint Chip Ice Cream is a tamed mint syrup that hits the right notes. And when you’re almost down drinking, you get the chocolate chip bits. This protein flavor can be overly sweet, 8.5 out of 10.
Full Disclosure: Mint Chip Ice Cream should come with a choking hazard.
🍬 What Protein Flavors are Available for Raw Protein Powders?
You can purchase 12 flavors directly from Raw Nutrition. However, those flavors are split between the two protein brands: Raw Whey Isolate Protein and Bum Itholate Protein.
🐄 Raw Whey Isolate Protein Flavors
The flavor selections are limited, but here are the four flavors: Cookies N Cream, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, and Peanut Butter.
🥤 Bum Itholate Protein Flavors
I firmly agree with the rep; the flavors with the Bum Protein Powders are more exciting and fun. As shared before, choking hazards should be prevalent in Mint Chip Ice Cream.
Here are the flavors available to purchase for Bum Itholate Protein: Birthday Cake, Mint Chip Ice Cream, Vanilla Oatmeal Cookie, Cinnamon Crunch Cereal, Maple Waffle Eh?, Strawberry Bumcake, Gingerbread, Chocolate Peanut Butter.
⭐️ Highest-Rated Protein Flavors Based on Amazon Reviews
As of this Bum Protein Powder review, Bum Protein Powder and Raw Whey Isolate Protein flavors are at 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Here are what reviewers shared with and criticized about Raw Protein Isolate:
- Flavor profile change
- Internationally sourced ingredients
- Artificial flavors, sugars, and not free of additives
- Bloating
The flavors that were routinely criticized were the Raw Whey Isolate flavors.
Overall, both the CBum and Raw Isolate flavors are favorites. The majority of my favorite flavors come from the CBum Protein powders. A distant second is the Raw Isolate Flavors.
However, three flavors to avoid
- Birthday Cake
- Cinnamon Crunch Cereal
- Mint Chip Ice Cream
Flavor: 8.0 out of 10. Select any flavor from the CBum line of flavors if you want a great-tasting protein powder. What’s your favorite flavor offered by Bum Protein or Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein?
Read the conclusion of this Bum Protein Powder review to see if this is worth a purchase.
🏁 Conclusion: Is Raw Isolate Protein Good?
Let’s conclude this Bum Protein Powder review and answer this question: Is Raw Isolate Protein good?
Based on my findings, Raw Isolate Protein is not good. Here are my reasons: spiked protein powder, internationally sourced protein from Europe, India, and China, and lots of false advertising on the Amazon description page.
The amino acid profile the Raw Nutrition representative shared via email was surprising. Are Raw Isolate Protein and Bum Protein Powders “both the same” and offer over 3.0 grams of leucine for an internationally sourced protein powder from Europe, India, or China?
Getting above 3 grams of leucine usually happens in New Zealand or Ireland. Neither Bum Protein nor Raw Grass-Fed Whey Isolate Protein is sourced from those countries. Furthermore, the usual grass-fed protein powder with over 3 grams of leucine is unflavored.
My comparison of Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein and AGN Roots Isolate saw past the marketing deception.
We also discovered that Informed Sport is the only third-party certification for Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein, free from banned substances.
Unfortunately, we also discovered via the Amazon product page that Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein and Bum Whey Protein are spiked with peptides.
Should You Buy Bum Protein and Raw Whey Grass Fed Isolate?
What do Bum Protein Powder and Raw Isolate Protein powders get right?
It mixes great, and the taste is solid.
The red flags with Bum Protein Powder and Raw Grass Fed Whey Isolate Protein are why you should not purchase Raw Nutrition Protein Powder products.
- Amino spiked
- Protein Quality
- Questionable internationally sourced protein powder
- Premium-priced for inferior protein quality
Those reasons alone are enough to avoid any Raw Nutrition Protein powders.
