Best Place to Buy MTN OPS Protein?

All right, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of MTN OPS Magnum. First off, no matter which flavor you snag, you’re looking at a solid 30 servings per tub. Now, about getting the best bang for your buck – it’s pretty standard fare with these guys.

Bagged myself a sweet deal using the PROMO CODE: BIG8. Also, there’s the usual free shipping on decent-sized orders and a nifty 4-payment plan if you want to spread out the cost. And hey, if you’re into the whole ‘subscribe and save’ thing, you can shave off another 15%.

So, let’s break down the numbers:

  • Standard deal: $49.95 for 30 scoops, which works out to about $1.66 per scoop.
  • Subscribe & Save: Drops down to $42.46, making it about $1.41 per scoop.
  • Promo Code: BIG8 chops it further to $42.46, but now it’s just $1.33 a scoop.

Pretty much what you’d expect for the price, especially for these non-big-name brands. Decent value, if you ask me.

Value: 6.0. You’re getting a proprietary blended protein. Seeing “proprietary blend,” may make you question buying MTN OPS protein. It’s okay. Glutamine is properly labeled with the specific amount. I’ll discuss more in Amino Spiking.

Is Mountain OPS Protein Powder Spiked?

A protein container stating the added ingredients help with post-workout recovery. That means: we put a cheap supplement in our product to make more money. Artificially raise the amount of protein with an amino acid.

If you are unaware, Glutamine is a cheap amino acid. Glutamine is used to inflate the amount of protein listed in the nutrition label.

The label states how much Glutamine is in the product. PERFECT!

An amino acid profile is printed on the label. Perfect. In fine print, “*amino acids occur naturally in protein.” AWESOME!

Just to make sure and confirm, I sent a message, August 13 wondering about the amount L-Glutamine (Glutamine) listed in MAGNUM…

LOVING this protein I purchased. However, The label states 1.5g of L-Glutatmine. Is that 1.5g INCLUDED with the 23g of protein. Or is that 1.5g outside the 23g of protein?

Received a reply back within 4 days from Heather (a representative)

MTN OPS Magnum Protein Review
In Mountain OPS Magnum, L-Glutamine is not counted towards the final protein per serving.

This begs the question: Does L-Glutimine actually help with post-workout recovery?

Does Glutamine Help With Recovery?

A conditionally essential amino acid which only appears to benefit the body as supplementation when otherwise deficient (vegans, vegetarians with low dairy intake) or during prolonged endurance exercise. Anecdotally reported to reduce sugar cravings.

Pulled directly from examine.com.

To receive the benefits of Glutamine, it is suggested the minimum dosage is at 5g.

L Glutamine and Working Out

In an intriguing study focusing on the effects of glutamine on exercise recovery, researchers zeroed in on professional basketball players as their subjects. Over a span of 40 days, these athletes were given 6 grams of glutamine daily.

To draw a comprehensive comparison, they also consumed a placebo, essentially a mock supplement, during a different phase of the study.

The primary objective was to observe any changes in their muscle health, for which researchers conducted blood tests both before and after this experimental period.

Conclusion of the effects of Glutamine on Exercise Recovery
  • Players who took glutamine had less muscle damage.
  • They had lower levels of certain chemicals in their blood that show muscle damage.
  • Glutamine seemed to help them recover from muscle stress better than the placebo.
Short falls of Glutamine on Exercise Recovery
  • The study only looked at basketball players, so it might not apply to everyone.
  • They didn’t check how different positions on the court might affect the results.
  • They didn’t measure some things, like cytokines, that could give more info about immune system health.

So, in simple terms, glutamine might help athletes like basketball players recover from muscle stress and damage, but more research is needed to be sure it works for everyone and in all situations.

How Does Glutamine Help Muscle Recovery

Scientists wanted to find out if glutamine helps your body store energy after a tough workout.

Here’s what they did:

First, a group of people exercised really hard to use up their muscle energy. After that, they drank one of three things: a sugar solution, a mix of sugar and glutamine, or just glutamine. They also got a special sugar through an IV for two hours to see how their bodies reacted.

Conclusion of the effects of Glutamine and Muscle Recovery
  • The researchers discovered that glutamine, either alone or with glucose, increased the body’s ability to store carbohydrates that aren’t immediately used for energy.
  • This storage seemed to happen not just in muscles but potentially in the liver as well.
  • When people took glutamine with glucose, their bodies stored more carbs outside of the muscles.
Short falls of Glutamine and muscle recovery
  • The study was conducted over a short time, so it doesn’t tell us about the long-term effects of taking glutamine.
  • They didn’t measure glycogen storage in the liver directly, so they aren’t completely sure that’s where extra carbs were stored.
  • The study only looks at the immediate aftermath of exercise and glutamine intake, so we don’t know if the effects last or change over time.

Key Takeaway from L Glutamine and Mountain OPS Protein

MTN OPS Magnum has a listed amount of 1.5 grams of Glutamine. However, 1.5 grams of Glutamine may not be enough to help offset a long day of hiking. It’s a nice thought.

Protein Spiking: 10 (not spiked). The 23g of protein per serving is the full amount. It’s great seeing a complete amino acid profile. The math checks out for the amount of naturally occurring BCAAs listed on the label. Glutamine is amount is too little to provide workout recovery.

How Does MTN OPS Protein Mix?

MTN OPS protein powder is super fine. The moment you open the tub, you already know you’re not going to have any problems mixing this protein.

Mixes like a champ with water, skim and 2% milk

Mixability: 10. I had zero problems mixing this protein powder.

Mountain OPS Ingredients

The ingredients list in Mountain OPS protein is very minimum.

  • Protein Blend: This is the muscle behind the magic. We’re talking a combo of Whey Protein Concentrate and Milk Protein Isolate. This duo works together to fuel your muscles and keep you going strong.
  • L-Glutamine: Here’s a key player for muscle recovery. It’s like the cool-down after a heavy workout, helping your muscles rebuild and come back stronger.
  • Natural Flavor: No artificial nonsense here. Just pure, natural flavor to make your taste buds happy.
  • Xanthan Gum: This little guy is all about texture. It keeps your shake smooth and drinkable, so no more clumpy protein shakes!
  • Sucralose: A touch of sweetness without the extra calories. Keeps your shake tasting great without messing with your macros.

Ingredient Profile: 7.5. Not a fan of proprietary blends. In this instance, MTN OPS Protein is NOT a low quality protein. Magnum is an above average protein powder, with premium pricing. If you’re someone who doesn’t like artificial sweeteners (sucralose) you’ll lose your mind.

MTN OPS Magnum Nutrition Facts

The nutrition facts for MTN OPS Magum is as follows.

Serving Size: 1 Scoop (31 g)

Servings Per Container: 30

  • Calories: 110
  • Total Fat: .5g
  • Total Carbohydrate: 3g
  • Dietary Fiber: 1 g
  • Protein: 23g (Rounded up from 22.5g)
  • Sodium: 160 mg
  • L-Glutamine: 1500 mg

Amount of protein per serving (protein/serving size): 23/31 = 74% protein per serving.

Macro Composition: 7.5. Remove the cheap Glutamine from this protein powder. The “enhanced” recovery from Glutamine is negligible at best. The characteristic of a good protein isolate is here: low calorie, low fat, minimal GI distress.

How Does MTN OPS Protein Taste?

11 different flavors and a limited time flavor (birthday cake). I purchased Birthday Cake and Cookies & Cream. Cookies & Cream is good. Birthday Cake overstayed it’s welcome.

Flavor: 8.5. If you use milk with any of the flavors, it’s like you’re drinking a shake. Mixing with water, you’re left feeling empty. It’s good. If you’re in the field, deer stand, or hike, you’ll be ok with it. What you see is what you get for flavoring. I’m sure the other 9 flavors are anywhere between an 8 to 9.

Is MTN OPS a Good Brand?

Is MTN OPS a good protein brand? There are many positives about this protein!

First off, it mixes like a dream – no lumps or bumps, just smooth sailing whether you mix with water or milk. 🥛💪

But here’s the catch – they’re using a proprietary blend and charging top dollar for it. While it’s not low quality, you’re definitely paying a premium. 🤔

Now, about that Glutamine. Magnum offers 1.5 grams in there, which is a nice touch, but not quite the powerhouse dose for hardcore recovery. It’s like adding a sprinkle of seasoning when you really need a spoonful. 🥄

Flavor-wise, they’re hitting the mark. With 11 choices, including Birthday Cake and Cookies & Cream, you’re likely to find a taste you love. Just keep in mind, some flavors might overstay their welcome! 🎂🍪

So, would I recommend it? Absolutely. Especially since every purchase contributes to ending child hunger through MTN OPS’s Conquer Hunger Program – a big thumbs up for that! 👍

A solid choice for outdoor enthusiasts who want a protein that tastes great and mixes easily, but be mindful of the price and blend.
