The Spartan Whey (Protein) Review
Is it me, or is it the latest craze is to make protein shakes into cereal flavors?
This month’s protein review is going to be Sparta Nutrition’s Spartan Whey Apple Cinnamon Cereal. I routinely see Spartan Whey on sale, so I decided to give it a spin. Don’t confuse Sparta Nutrition with Spartan Nutrition.
I don’t see a lot of promotion or advertising of any Sparta Nutrition products. Obviously, they are not an A-Lister in the world of supplements, but I would imagine you can find them on the B-Tier list, up-and-coming supplements that are budget-priced but are quality.
Just reading more in-depth about Sparta Nutrition, how can you not get behind a company with this mission statement and goal

Yea, I know! You’re probably saying what company hasn’t said that before? Let’s see if their Spartan Whey backs up the company’s talk?
Value
I purchased Sparta Nutrition’s Spartan Whey, Apple Cinnamon Cereal, through Amazon at $22. One container is 2 pounds, with 27 servings per container. Each serving contains 25 grams of blended protein.
- $22 per 2 pounds, 27 servings per, $1.22 per serving.
One other thing to note, Sparta Nutrition is advertising ASTRAGIN. What’s Astragin? It’s a “plant-based compound to increase absorption of nutrients.” This compound is patented in the US, China, and Taiwan.
Does it do what it advertised? I’m not sure, I personally think it’s just another marketing gimmick just to prey on unsuspecting consumers. The marketing sounds good, especially if you have gut health issues. But, I haven’t read any research backing up the marketing hype. If you want to read the research that the COMPANY has done with AstraGin, visit this link to get more information.
Value: 8
The value you receive with this product is about the going average for blended protein. If there is any academic research stating that AstraGin can be beneficial, I would say this product is a 9. The value score of this protein is going to tie in with the Protein Spiking score.
Protein Spiking
This label has been the easiest to read to determine if this product is spiked. There is full disclosure on the label, stating what percent of the product is an isolate, concentrate, and casein. More information is provided stating that this product is soy and gluten-free, no artificial colors, and is NOT amino spiked.
Protein Spiking: 10 (Not Spiked with Aminos). Nothing else to say. It’s nice to see a checklist of what’s not in this product and it’s great to see a breakdown of the weight and amount of each protein used in the product.
Mixability
I have used 3/4 of the container, not once did I have an issue with the mixing of this product. It passes the water test, no clumping at the bottom nor at the top a shaker bottle. I’ve used nut milk, still no issue. I didn’t use it with oatmeal. HOWEVER, it states on the container: can be used with baking.
Mixability: 10
No problems with mixing with water, nut milk, or sports drink. The product is advertised that it can be used for baking. I wouldn’t see why not!
Ingredient Profile
The ingredient profile is standard fair in what you would see in a blended protein. Once again, I love the fact that specific weight and protein grades were stated in this product. Isolate is predominately used in this product, then concentrate, and then finally casein.
Part of the reason for the low price is this product isn’t being advertised as grass-fed protein or organic related.
One final thing to note, THERE IS NO STEVIA!
Ingredient Profile: 8.5 Standard fair on what you would find on a blended protein. This product receives higher marks because protein amounts are labeled and no stevia.
Macro Composition
- Calories 120
- Fat 2g
- Protein 25g
- Carbs 1g (0 fiber)
This product is advertised as keto-friendly, post-workout, any time use. With protein specifics stated on this product, I can’t complain.
Macro Composition: 10
I could make a knit-pick about the product not having enough fiber. I’d gladly take 1g of sugar over 1g of fiber in a protein supplement.
Flavor
Does it taste like how it’s advertised, Apple Cinnamon Cereal, AKA Apple Jacks?
Yes, it does remind me of Apple Jacks. It’s the closest and HEALTHIEST version of Apple Jacks you’ll ever taste in a protein shake. There is enough cinnamon flavor that it isn’t overpowering. It does cover the urge for me to go and eat cereal.
Since I never did use this protein mixed with oatmeal or porridge, I think this protein would supplement plain oatmeal or porridge. Would I want to make a dessert item with this protein, not sure? But I’d give it a try.
Flavor: 8
While this product has been great, I’m happy that I’m almost done with this container. The apple cereal flavor had a nice run. It’s not something I would go out and buy in a 5-pound container.
Final Word
I’m impressed with the quality and value that I got out of this product. It backs up what Sparta Nutrition wants to accomplish with its product, mainly it’s protein: “efficaciously dosed products.”
Product information is at the forefront of this protein ranging from protein breakdown, uses for the product, and what you can expect from this product: great value and great quality.
My only knocks on this product, after drinking Apple Cereal flavored protein for 3 weeks, I’m happy I’m near the end of the container. Sure, the price per serving is average compared to what’s on the market. Sparta Nutrition does offer 5-pound containers on Amazon.com in their Vanilla Ice Cream and Blueberry Muffin flavors.
Sparta Nutrition Spartan Whey, Apple Cinnamon Cereal Final Verdict
